How to import 3D models on Web

You can create custom catalog items from supported 3D model files, images, or product links and use them in your Planner 5D projects. Imported items are saved in My Items, where you can add them to your project, manage them, or customize them later.

Before you start

  1. Availability depends on your subscription plan:

    • Premium: Import from an image or product URL.

    • PRO: Import from an image, supported 3D model file, or product URL.

    • Free plan: The feature is visible, and you can proceed with uploading an image or adding a URL. However, a subscription plan is required to actually convert the image or URL.

  2. Supported formats are available for review directly when using the feature.

  3. The option to apply textures or only colours depends on the model itself. This is controlled by the model’s internal settings, not something we can adjust on our end. Unfortunately, we can't change how this works.

  4. Depending on the model's weight and complexity, this process can take up to 15 minutes. If something goes wrong – please reach out to our Customer Support team!

You can start importing custom items:

If you have not imported any custom items yet, select Create items to add your first one. If you already have custom items, My Items displays them and provides options to Add more items or Manage items.

You can also access Create items from the Furnish catalog.

Create custom items

Select Create items and choose how you want to create the item:

  • Upload a file.

  • Import from a product URL.

Upload a file

You can add files by:

  1. Dragging them into the upload area.

  2. Clicking the upload area.

  3. Selecting Choose file.

The same upload area accepts both supported 3D model files and images that can be converted into 3D models. You can select multiple files in a single upload.

After selecting your files, the number of selected files is displayed. You can clear the selection before continuing if needed.

Import from a product URL

You can also create custom items from online product pages.

  1. Select Create items.

  2. Enter the product page link in Import from URL.

  3. Select Continue.

The product page can contain either one product or multiple products. When creating the custom item, Planner 5D can use information from the page such as the preview image, item name, and dimensions, and the original product link is retained as the item's source information.

If the URL is not valid, an error is displayed and the import cannot continue.

Choose the processing mode

Before processing the imported item, you can select a processing mode:

Wait for the item to process

After the import begins, each item is processed separately. You can continue using custom items that have already finished processing while other items are still being prepared.

The processing status can show the following stages:

  1. Model uploading

  2. Converting

  3. 3D Generation

  4. Thumbnail generation

The current stage is highlighted while the remaining stages are waiting to begin.

When processing is successful:

  • A preview appears in My Items.

  • The item becomes available to use in your project.

  • You can customize it later if needed.

You do not need to customize every successfully generated item before using it. Successfully processed items are automatically added to your custom catalog.

If processing fails, the item remains visible with an error status. Depending on the error, you may be able to retry the process or remove the failed item.

Manage imported items

Select Manage items to view and manage your custom objects.

The list can show:

  • Item preview

  • Item name

  • Dimensions

  • Processing status

  • Available actions

Depending on the item's current status, you can:

  • Customize

  • Add to scene

  • Retry

  • Remove or delete the item

The original filename or product URL is also displayed as the source when applicable.

Change the dimensions of an imported item

You can change the item's dimensions from Manage items.

Available dimensions are:

  • Width

  • Height

  • Depth

You can lock or unlock the aspect ratio. When it is locked, changing one dimension changes the others proportionally.

After changing the dimensions, the item must be processed again to generate the model at its new size.

Customize an imported item

Customization is optional. Open Edit from My Items, or select the corresponding customization option from Manage items.

The model editor lets you change the item's name, materials, size, rotation, pivot point, and other available properties.

Change materials

Open Material to view the textures already included in the model.

Select a texture to open the material options and assign a built-in Planner 5D texture to that part of the model.

When editing colors, you can use:

  • Saved colors

  • Color picker

  • HEX color code

  • Eyedropper

  • RGB color code

Change the size

Open Size to adjust the model's:

  • Width

  • Height

  • Depth

Individual dimensions can be locked to prevent them from being changed automatically when another dimension is adjusted. When a dimension is not locked, the model's proportions are adjusted automatically.

Rotate the model

You can adjust rotation around the:

  • X axis

  • Y axis

  • Z axis

Use Reset to return all rotation values to 0.

You can also use the controls in the upper-right corner of the editor to click or drag an axis and rotate the model.

Adjust the pivot point

Select Edit pivot point to change the model's pivot position. You can adjust its X and Y scale and use Back to center to return the model to the center when needed.

Use additional actions

The model editor also provides actions to:

  • Flip horizontally

  • Flip vertically

  • Rotate horizontally +45°

  • Rotate vertically +45°

Default view returns the model to its default position after the view has been changed.

3D navigation

The 3D axis navigation is located in the upper right corner of the editor. It is possible to click on an axis or drag an axis to rotate the object.

Save your customized model

When setting up a model, select Submit when you're finished. Before submitting, Planner 5D can display a checklist of items to review; you can choose not to display this check again in the future.

After submission, the model starts processing and its card appears in My Items. A preview replaces the processing indicator when the model is ready.

When editing an existing custom model, use Save instead of Submit.

Use the imported item in your project

Once processing is complete, the custom item is available from My Items and can be added to your project. Planner 5D also creates a 2D representation of the item for the floor plan, which scales together with the custom object when you resize it.
