Before You Start
Make sure Object Snapping is enabled in Project settings.
Object Snapping works when repositioning objects in 3D view.
When to use Object Snapping
Object Snapping is useful when you want to position items more precisely without repeatedly adjusting their placement manually. Snapping can also automatically adjust an object's elevation when you move it between supported surfaces in 3D.
Web
Move an object between surfaces
Switch to 3D view.
Select the object you want to move.
Hold Shift to see highlighted areas where objects can be placed or snapped.
Drag the object toward the surface where you want to place it.
Move the object over the surface until it becomes highlighted.
Release the object.
The object is placed on the highlighted surface and automatically adjusts to the height of that surface.
How surface highlighting works
While you move an object, Planner 5D highlights the surface currently targeted for placement.
As you move the object over different surfaces, the highlighted area changes to show where the object will be placed when released.
If an item contains several separate surfaces, such as a shelving unit, each available surface can be targeted individually.
Move objects between different heights
Object Snapping allows you to move an object directly between surfaces at different heights, for example:
From the floor to a table
From a table to another surface
Between different levels of a shelving unit
From an elevated surface back to the floor
You do not need to manually adjust the object's Elevation when moving it between these surfaces. The Elevation changes automatically according to the surface where the object is placed.
iOS
On iPhone and iPad, the Snapping settings help you control how objects are positioned while arranging your project. The available options include Vertical Snapping, along with controls for changing the colors used for snapping.
Open a project
Open Planner 5D.
Tap Floor Plans in the bottom menu.
Make sure the Floor Plans tab is selected.
Open the project you want to edit.
Open the Snapping settings
The Snapping section contains the available controls for how snapping behaves in your project.
Use Vertical Snapping
Vertical Snapping helps position objects vertically when working with surfaces at different heights.
Turn on Vertical Snapping from the Snapping settings when you want to use this behavior while positioning objects.
This is useful when placing one object on another available surface instead of manually adjusting its vertical position.
Change the snapping colors
The Vertical Snapping settings also let you customize the colors used for snapping.
Open Settings → Snapping.
Find the color options in the Vertical Snapping settings.
Select the color you want to use.
The selected colors are then used for the snapping indicators while you work with objects.
Turn Vertical Snapping off
If you do not want to use vertical snapping:
Return to Settings → Snapping.
Turn Vertical Snapping off.
You can return to the same settings whenever you want to enable it again or change the snapping colors.
